Word for September 11: Hero

Today's Word:
Hero

I thought this word appropriate for the day. We visited the fire station this morning for a tour, as they'd opened it for 9-11 remembrance.

  1. A hero's not afraid to give his life.
A hero's gonna save me just in time.

I need a hero to save my life.
    I need a hero,
    Just in time.

    Save me just in time.
    Save me just in time.

    I need a hero.
Who's gonna fight for what's right,
    Who's gonna help us survive.

    I need a hero
Who's gonna fight for the weak,
    Who's gonna make 'em believe.
    I need a hero.

    I need a hero.

A hero's gonna save me just in time.

  2. OK, I'm cheating here - the word hero is not actually IN the song, but just for old times' sake:

Look at what's happened to me,
    I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
    It should've been somebody else.

    Believe it or not,
    I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
    Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me

  3. And to redeem myself according to the actual rules of the game...

    I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
he's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast
and gotta be fresh from the fight
    I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light
He's gotta be sure and he's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

  4. I grew up a-dreamin' of bein' a cowboy
    Lovin' the cowboy ways
Pursuin' the life of my high-ridin' heroes
I burned up my childhood days
I learned all the rules of the modern-day drifter
Don't you hold onto nothin' too long
Just take what you need from the ladies
Then leave them the words of a sad country song

My heroes have always been cowboys
And they still are, it seems
Sadly in search of, but one step in back of
    Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams

Cowboys are special with their own brand of misery
    From bein' alone too long
You could die from the cold in the arms of a nightmare
Knowin' well your best days are gone
Pickin' up hookers instead of my pen
I let the words of my years fade away
Old worn-out saddles, old worn-out memories
With no one and no place to stay

  5. Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
